The Dawes Act aimed at separating Native Americans' land settlements given to them. In reservation forms and dividing them into smaller parcels where they would live, the Act aimed at assimilating the American Natives into the European culture. Therefore, when introducing the Act, Dawe felt that the allotment would save Native Americans from total extermination. However, the execution of the Dawes Act resulted in the extermination that Dawe was trying to avoid. European colonization in the 15th century pushed Native Americans to the West. Settlers had free will to settle in any area of their choice, resulting in settlers populating the West. The settlement of settlers in the West, where Native Americans resided, resulted in the Indians War.
